Keisha L. M. Whittaker is the lecturer in the area of Mining and Mineral Resources Engineering at Engineering Unit of OE Division, NSRIC. She is a graduate of the Universities of Birmingham, UK and of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica qualifying in geotechnical engineering and geology respectively and has over ten years of commercial and academic experience. She is actively engaged in research of landslides and rock mechanics in the Caribbean Community with focus on impacts of mining, minerals and quarrying. A 2006 Island Scholar, she was Geotechnical Engineering Consultant and technical lead in the commercialization of an oil sand quarry, for exploration of construction sands and geotechnical and technical evaluations of slope stability, mine designs, reserve estimations using NI43-101 protocols and mine scheduling in andesites and dacites, limestones and phyllites as well as oil sands and is presently evaluating for gold and granite in West Africa and South America respectively. In addition, she is working extensively in geo-data digitization, geological mapping and database management of development minerals during her career as well as GIS modelling of earth phenomena. She is a graduate member of the Institute of Civil Engineers UK. Keisha shares her knowledge through delivering curriculum in academia at vocational and tertiary levels.
